The Department of Energy Accounted for over 60% of All Federal Funding for R&D Plant in FY 2021

FY 2021 total federal obligations and outlays for federal research and development (R&D) plant totaled $4.3 and $3.8 billion, respectively, with most funding coming from the Department of Energy. Data are from the Survey of Federal Funds for R&D, conducted by the National Center for Science and Engineering Statistics within the National Science Foundation.
